To help me work as efficiently and productively as possible I use what are known as CAT tools. Currently, my toolkit includes:
The initials CAT stand for Computer Assisted Translation. This does not mean that my computer does all the hard work for me. Rather, every sentence that I translate in the course of an assignment gets stored in a special database. If a similar sentence subsequently occurs within the same text or in a related text, the computer inserts the "match" from the database and I edit it as required. This can save a considerable amount of time in the case of highly repetitive texts or if a manual for a new product closely resembles one already translated for a previous product.
